The Staves are billed as one of the biggest up-and-coming artists in recent times and I firmly believe that when their debut album finally hits the shelves later this year, music stores will think they’ve found the motherlode.
Why? Because the trio of sisters have created a folky sound that is just irresistibly warm; y=the kind of sound that will instantly distil any hostile situation. While all their tunes can calm any agitated person, ‘The Motherlode’ is probably their more harmonious tune. It has a wonderfully organic texture and lyrics are similarly naturalistic as the final lines ring: “Golden river running from her home.”
They are also supporting Bon Iver later this year in London and I don’t think there is a more perfect match in the folk scene; two beautiful sounds and both equally as impressive at putting to sleep any insomniac.
